Volume, space, and rhythm
Think about how important it is that the spaces between self and other change. Imagine sitting in a theater. As an audience, we are closer to each other than we are to each musician or performer on stage. I inked each score as 10 musicians performed Philip Glass' Piano Etudes with their own mark of time at Hill Auditorium. Each panel is an inked core structure or skeleton that reflects paired real time scores.
As we listened, we heard the performances and we heard audible responses to each musician's presence. Local reception to Detroit musicians is audible energy in the experience of being at a live performance and acknowledging the sheer experience of living on the same ground. Performers out of state also receive particular and specific welcome.
Being with ourselves and each other remains profoundly difficult to master and record. I seek, remember, and act towards finding methods to share, tell, converse who we are when we are present.
